The Rainbow Lorikeet (Trichoglossus moluccanus) is an Australian parrot which feeds on fruit, pollen and nectar. Noisy, gregarious birds, they fly as pairs and occasionally as large flocks. They are often so used to human company that they can be hand-fed and are often found in suburban bird-baths and feeders. Valiant defenders of their territory, they will aggressively chase other birds away, even birds much larger than themselves.
This original painting by De Gillett Cox is 101 x 101 cm, Acrylic on linen, and features De’s self-developed “colour rub” techniques combined with her hand-drawn stencils and fluid mark-making.
