The Azure Kingfisher (Ceyx azureus) is a tiny, brilliantly coloured bird which inhabits creek and river banks in northern and eastern Australia. They feed on fish, crustaceans, and small frogs; and nest in a deep chamber dug into an earthen creek bank. Their jewel-like flashes of colour are often impossible to see until they suddenly dart into the water from a branch above in search of their next meal.
This original painting by De Gillett Cox is 122 x 122 cm, Mixed media and Acrylic on linen. It utilises hand cut paper collage and layered views of Kingfishers in flight, darting about where they are, where they were, where they will be.
