Grafton, New South Wales, is home of the annual Jacaranda Festival, and hometown to artist De Gillett Cox. Stately Jacaranda (Jacaranda mimosifolia) trees also line the streets of Brisbane/Meanjin, which De now calls home. The 4 Jacaranda trees she has in her own backyard are an endless source of joy and inspiration to De, and she continues to paint their portraits in glowing colour at every opportunity.
This original painting by De Gillett Cox is 122 x 122 cm, textured acrylic on linen, and was made with De’s original hand-drawn stencils to create both positive and negative elements.
