Description

Australia is the land of parrots, with over 50 species with a huge range of sizes and colourations. Adelaide Rosella is one of the stunningly coloured birds that is endemic to South Australia. This was thought to be a separate species but is presently believed to have originated through the interbreeding of the Crimson and Yellow Rosellas.

My painting is inspired by an amazing shot by photographer Stuart Blackwell of Adelaide Rosella bathing and drinking one afternoon in Tanunda, South Australia. The galaxy of colours doubled in the water reflections in an almost abstract pattern with a touch of gold.

The original painting was a finalist of The Holmes Art Prize for Realistic Australian Bird Art 2021 - Caloundra, QLD.
