Australia is home to many unique species of native flowers unlike those originating anywhere else in the world. Over thousands of generations they have adapted to extreme aridity and heat. Here we see the Kangaroo Paw, a striking bloom native to desert parts of Australia, and the Woolly Banksia, one of the 170 different banksias which are a vital food source for birds, bats, possums, and Australia’s stingless native bees.
This original painting by De Gillett Cox is 91 x 91 cm, Acrylic on linen, and features many of De’s hand-drawn and highly intricate stencil designs to describe Australia’s distinctive native wildflowers.
