Description

The Azure Kingfisher (Ceyx azureus)  is a tiny, brilliantly coloured bird that inhabits creek and river banks in northern and eastern Australia. They feed on fish, crustaceans, and small frogs; and nest in a deep chamber dug into an earthen creek bank.  Their jewel-like flashes of colour are often impossible to see until they suddenly dart into the water from a branch above in search of their next meal.

This original painting by De Gillett Cox is 76 x 101 cm, Acrylic on linen, and features her trademark negative painting style and individually knife-painted feathers. Too much colour is never enough for De, and her signature hashtag is #coloursofexuberance.
