Lyn began her love of drawing and painting at an early age, winning a county award for art at the age of 10. Through high school she continued to practice, gaining skills in a wide range of areas. Once at college studying for her degree, Art took a back seat and continued to do so for many years while she began her career.
Her interest was rekindled when she and her partner Jon took up scuba diving in the chilly waters of the UK coast. Lyn wanted a way to bring the images she saw to the surface to show others that the underwater world was cold but not devoid of life. She put a camera in a box and took up photography.
In 1989 Lyn and Jon emigrated to Australia, built their house in Wamboin and enjoyed the warmer waters of the eastern coast for their diving trips. Lyn continued to photograph the undersea world but also began a collection of images of the wilder areas of Australia, selling them at a local market.
In 1998, Lyn decided it was time for a change of lifestyle and giving up her career in IT, she returned to college to study a course in Interactive Media, putting her IT skills and her love of art together. With more time on her hands, she began to explore some of the art fields that she had once loved, in particular lino printing. This led to an interest in solar plate etching and then woodcuts.
While still diving and taking photographs both above and below the surface, these images are now mostly used as reference material for Lyn’s art. She now works from her studio in Wamboin, where she divides her time between operating a picture framing business and developing her ideas for further print works.
